3/23-Take a walk in the backyard and make a list of living and nonliving things you see. When you’re done upload what you created to Seesaw (just take a picture and press the + button). Send me the pictures and I'll put them on the blog.
3/5- Since the students have learned so much about living & nonliving we are going to study the needs of bugs and create a hotel. This hotel will have everything it needs for the bug to live a happy life. 2/4- I was completely blown away by the students rock machine creations. Watching the Kindergartners create is one of my favorite things. The next STEM activity we will be looking at bugs... GROSS! We are going to work collaboratively to research and create a bug hotel. We will need more toilet paper rolls and cardboard for this unit. 1/9- This week students will begin to make a rock sorting machine. The students will begin by looking at the different characteristics of a rock and then make a matching that sorts them. The students will sort them by color, size, texture, or luster.
12/6- This week we began our unit on the day and night sky. The students used different recycled materials to create models of what they see in either the day or night sky. We then took a closer look at the model and counted how many of the different shapes we saw. They honestly did an awesome job. At home let them “play” with some of your recycled trash. Their creativity is awesome and they are coming up with some great things.
11/4- Last week we read Runaway Pumpkin and created a way to stop the pumpkin from continuing to roll. We obsevered how the speed of an object changes on the height it is rolling from and also how some object roll and others slide. Ask your child about their hand motions for push, pull, and collide.
10/22: The students are finishing up their Rapunzel projects. They did an awesome job at creating a way for her to get down and escape the Evil Gothel. Our next unit is the Runaway Pumpkins. This unit is designed to review the push, pull, and collide standard the students learned in class. 10/3: They are doing such a great job describing different items using their physical characteristics. Next week we will be finish up describing the physical characteristics and start trying to find ways to SAVE RAPUNZEL! We still are in need of spice drops and marshmallows.
9/3:Looking towards the next couple weeks we will need a few items: marshmallows and gum drops. 8/26: This week in STEM the students will work on creating a shelter for the tiger. We will discuss what a shelter is and describe the materials we are using to create the shelter using their physical characteristics. Also, we will work on counting the number of supplies we are using and writing them down. Stay tuned for cute pictures. We are still in need of supplies: empty toilet paper rolls and play dough.
