2/4- The students are still finishing their mineral display cases. Our next unit will begin next week. We will create a dream room and use legos to find out the area and perimeter. 1/9- The students are looking at different ways to classify minerals and will create a display case to show how the characteristics of the different minerals. 12/6- The students are finishing up their pollution units. They have decided to do thinks here in the community to make a difference. Stay tuned for some of their awesome work. 11/4- I read the students the book What Can You Do With a Box. This week they are taking recycled materials and trying to come up with the most creative idea on what they can do with a box. They may ask you to bring in items from home and that is fine... It just has to be cleaned out recyclable trash. 10/22- The students worked together on the Tinkercad website to create an image of their newly discovered animal. We then used the 3D printer to make a prototype. I will share the videos later when they have finished describing their animal adaptations in their environment. 9/29- The third graders have finished with their research and will now begin working on using Tinkercad and create their new animal.
9/17- This week the children spent time researching different regions of Georgia and are comparing some of the adaptations that the plants and animals in that region have in common. The next time they come to STEM lab they are going to begin the process of making an animal and describing how it lives in it's environment. I will be sure to take pictures and videos of their creations and add them to the list.
Animal Adaptations- In second grade the students were expected to learn the 5 regions of GA and some of the plants and animals that live there. This year they are going to learn how animals have adapted to live in their environment. The first part of the STEM lesson the students will research one region and for the second part they will create an animal that lives in the environment. I have created a blendspace with some of the videos and resources we will use.
