3/25: If you have seeds at home plant one in soil and one in rocks, one in light and one in the dark, give one water and no water to the other. During the week have them observe the changes they see and jot them down. If you do not have seeds at home have them create a 3-D model of a plant using recycled materials. When you’re done upload what you created to Seesaw, use the microphone tool to explain to us what happened. Send me a few pictures so I can share on the blog.
3/5- The first grade Magnet Mazes were awesome! Next we are going to learn about different engineers and the materials they use to build different structures. Stay tuned for pictures. 2/2- The students not only built a house with different roofs to support a snow load they also were able to take the information or data and apply this to other climates. Our next activity is Magnet maze. The students have spent a lot of time in class learning about how magnets work. Their upcoming STEM activity they will put this knowledge to use. We will need cardboard for this unit. 1/9- This week students learned about snow load and why the shape of a roof would make it safer if you lived in an area where it snows a lot. The students began to construct their houses and next time they come we will test the snow load by adding flour to it. 12/6- This week we started our puppet shows. The students worked together to plan out their puppet shows. Stay tuned for the finished product. 11/4- We are finishing up our structures and not working on testing them. When we finish with that task we will start our next one which is creating a puppet show. 10/22: The students took their knowledge of the water cycle and are creating a structure to keep something dry. 9/24: The cities are almost done! They are awesome. :) They have done a great job planning a city that makes it safe and comfortable for those that live there. 9/4: Students have finished brainstorming what makes a good city. They will begin to plan their city as a city planner. Stay tuned for more info. 8/26: The students are using what they have learned in class to create a Sandy Springs they think has it all.
